Tow truck driver possessed stolen Chicago Police radio capable of listening to encrypted radio talkgroups that scanners cannot decode

Chicago police officers witness a tow truck driver allegedly get out, put something under a blue garbage bin in the block of 3400 West Potomac, and drive away. They discovered a CPD radio labeled “Property of City of Chicago” with a city inventory number, according to the report obtained by CWB Chicago. The $2,500 radio operated on the police department’s encrypted radio channels.
